Gas Turbine major inspection completed ahead of schedule despite hurricane, earthquake September 03, 2011 Granite Manpower, headquartered in Houston Texas, completed a Frame 3 Major Inspection in Lusby, Maryland for a key customer ahead of schedule with perfect quality and zero safety issues, in the face of both a hurricane and an earthquake. "You can’t set up shop waiting for an earthquake to occur, but you can brief emergency procedures to your crew...and that’s what we did," commented the project manager after the 5.8 magnitude quake rattled the east coast and was noted as one of the strongest ever felt in Maryland. Five days later Hurricane Irene passed over the site. Granite personnel had secured the work site and evacuated to a safe area, and returned to complete the project ahead of the original schedule. "Restoring a unit to service flawlessly is all about good people following a good plan with good flexibility and a gold standard of safety culture" said Michael Wood, Granite’s general manager for the Americas.
